A positive result does not necessarily mean you have bowel cancer, but it does indicate that you have traces of blood in your stool. The health professionals involved will work with you to get this checked out. It can be caused by a number of common conditions including polyps or haemorrhoids (piles).
If your test is negative, it means that you don’t require further investigation at this time. In the meantime, if you develop symptoms or concerns, it is important to see your GP so that nothing important is missed.
Whatever the result, Southern Cross will be with you, making sure you are supported every step of the way.
The purpose of the bowel health pilot (the Pilot) is to assess Pilot participants experience of the screening and navigation process and support received in relation to their bowel health. The results of the Pilot will then be compared with Southern Cross Medical Care Society (Southern Cross) members who have been referred for colonoscopy and any further treatment outside of this Pilot.
